What is hypnosis/hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is often referred to as sleep, though, generally it is a state of deep relaxation and focused awareness. You are likely to have entered and experienced varying levels of hypnotic states throughout the day. For example, when you're absorbed deeply in an interesting book or film, you may tune out what's going on in your immediate surroundings.

All hypnosis is effectively self-hypnosis. A hypnotist or hypnotherapist acts as a guide using various techniques such as imagery to help you enter a deep state of relaxation and the hypnotic state. You remain aware and in control, and can terminate a session at any time. You cannot be made to say or do anything against your will, personal ethics or morals.

Hypnotherapy is a brief form of therapy where the natural ability to enter a hypnotic state is harnessed and directed toward making positive changes, achieving goals, and alleviating symptoms.

Entering hypnosis is usually a subtle process, and everyone experiences hypnosis differently. Whether they experience sensations of lightness or heaviness or transient tingling or temperature changes, most people find they feel wonderfully relaxed!
