During the state of hypnosis the relative 'chatter' and the critical function of our conscious mind relaxes. The critical function works somewhat like a software programme, rejecting any information that doesn't match our beliefs. If we have a belief that we aren't 'good enough', for example, we might well dismiss compliments from others.
Sometimes it can be a case of feeling conflict between our particular goals and our ability to achieve them. It can be a bit like trying to carry a conversation with someone on the telephone and another person in the same room, yet many of us go back and forth in the same way with our own thought processes and behaviours. It's no wonder many of us wind up feeling stuck at times!
The beauty of hypnotherapy is that it works with our own powerful imagination, helping us gain direct access to our subconscious mind, where suggestions for positive change can be accepted and put into action more readily, without unnecessary interference and distraction.
